Pumpkin Carving/Sculpting 01 – Big Eyed Boo!

Well, I made an attempt to grow to GIANT pumpkins this year... and well, let's just say they didn't make it to GIANT status but they were heavy... or maybe I was just tired! *L*  One was 42.5 pounds and the other was 26.5 pounds... not huge by any  means, but they are my first, so I love them.   Because I have talked to these pumpkins all summer & fall (to encourage growth I suppose - or just because they were good listeners)  I decided to try my hand at sculpting since they were so ...

New sweets on the way this fall!

We're doing two cancer "bake sale" type fundraisers this fall for my 2-year old granddaughter who has liver cancer. 100% of our profits will go to Mazie's family (http://www.miracle4mazie.org) We've done quite a bit of fundraising this summer and now it's time for BAKING FUN!!  woo hoo. I absolutely can't wait!   I have so many recipes to pick from it's really hard to narrow them down!  For sure, we will be at the Kappa Kraft Fair in Powell, WY on Sat. Nov. 27th at the fairgrounds and if we ...

Big Cupcake with Creepy & Cute Animals

Our grandson's 2nd birthday. This cake was put together in a bit of a hurry because we had to travel and it was late, but the kids loved it.  My dad and I made the fondant animals a few days before not knowing for sure how they would go over and everyone was "calling" their animals so it worked out well. Apparently, our grandson likes fondant better than cake or icing (we witnessed this last  year with the Lion cake too) so next year I'm making him a cake but his part will just be some big ...

Cinderella Carriage Cake

Cinderella Princess carriage cake for our oldest Granddaughter. She just turned 5 and loves everything princess! The base of the cake is actually foam because it was a small party so only the carriage is cake covered in fondant.  The wheels and all other decorations are also made from fondant because I thought 5 days would be long enough for them to dry - I was wrong and they needed a lot of support (aka tiny flowers, pumpkin vines & royal icing) to make sure they didn't collapse. If I ...

Spongebob Squarepants & Krabby Patty Cake

This cake was made for our grandson's 2nd birthday. The cake had to travel 5 hours to Montana so I tried to come up with a method to have Spongebob laying down so he could take the trip better - but not just have him laying flat on a cake board - so that's where the giant krabby patty came into play. where's waldo... errr.. I mean, spongebob! The bottom and top bun are 10" round yellow cake each covered in fondant. The "krabby patty" is a 10-inch round brownie. The lettuce is ...
